Congress President Sonia Gandhi kickstarted the poll campaign in Himachal Pradesh on Monday. Unleashing a strong attack on the incumbent BJP-led government in the state, Gandhi slammed the party for its doublespeak on corruption and also alleged that the present state government did not do anything for the development of the hill state.
Taking a dig at BJP for trying to derail the UPA-II government’s economic reforms, Gandhi said FDI in retail will benefit farmers. ‘The BJP is also engaged in false propaganda against our FDI in retail policy. The important thing is that every state has the liberty not to implement FDI in their state. By this policy, the farmers will be able to get proper and adequate prices for their produce by selling their goods directly at the markets. Further the common man would be able to get their security needs at a fair and affordable price. New employment opportunities will be generated,’ she asserted.
Gandhi also alleged that the Central funds to the tune of Rs 10,000 crores allocated to the state had lapsed as the BJP government did not make adequate efforts to implement various Central schemes in the state.
Also attacking the opposition on the issue of corruption, she said, ‘These days BJP is talking big about tackling corruption when there is rampant corruption in the states ruled by them, from top to bottom. Their fight against corruption is just a show off.’
WHY IS SHE MUM ON SCAMS, ASKS BJP
Countering Sonia Gandhi's attack, BJP alleged that while she has been raking up the corruption issue again and again she has failed to respond to questions on scams. 'Gandhi has been raising the issue of corruption in her public speeches everywhere be it in Rajkot, Mangalore, Haryana or even in Mandi, what has she done on the 2G scam? Sheila Dikshit is still the CM of Delhi despite a PM appointed committee indicting her, and we have not heard a word from Gandhi on her stand on any scam,' said BJP spokesperson Sitharaman.
