Soni Sori, the tribal activist and the AAP leader from Chhattisgarh who was attacked with an acid-like substance on Saturday night in Dantewada was admitted to a private hospital in Delhi in the presence of DCW chief Swati Maliwal.
Sori was admitted in the hospital on Sunday night at about 9.45 pm and was immediately shifted to the ICU. After getting her admitted, Maliwal had said that there were severe chemical burns on Sori’s face and the doctor’s had feared that there might be a possibility of her losing her eyesight.
On Monday, the doctors in the hospital on reporting Sori’s condition assured that a team of senior consultant specialists were assigned to take care of Sori’s clinical needs and said that they were positive that Sori would recover in the next coming weeks.
The doctors have stated that she is being monitored continuously on an hourly basis. On the rumours of Sori losing her eyesight, the doctors said that she is being evaluated by the ophthalmologist and her eye on examination appeared to be normal, though she had orbital conjunctival oedema. The doctors also said that her condition is stable and there is no threat to her life. The doctors, however, refused to provide the information of the substance which was thrown at Sori’s face by her attackers.
Soni Sori, besides being a prominent tribal activist, is also a recognised AAP leader from Chhattisgarh and was getting threats of her life because of activities of tribal activism in Maoist-affected regions of Dantewada. To inquire about her condition, education minister Manish Sisodia and health minister Satyendar Jain paid a visit to the hospital.
Sori has expressed fear for her 15-year-old daughter. The AAP has requested the Chhattisgarh government and the Home Minister to initiate quick action and nab the culprits and give them strictest punishment.
