Sonepat, Haryana’s next big thing after Gurgaon

Haryana government has plans to develope many more cities like Gurgaon in the near future.

‘Sonipat is the future city of Haryana, whereas Gurgaon, the millennium city is the face of the country,’ said Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at a three-day exposition on Investment Opportunities in Sonipat-Kundli in New Delhi on Friday.

‘Delhi Metro has been extended up to Gurgaon and it is being extended up to Ballabhgarh and Bahadurgarh. It will further be extended up to Manesar in Gurgaon district. Delhi Metro will also be extended up to Kundli after reaching Narela. Haryana government will be contributing its due share for this project,’ said Hooda.

According to the Metro officials, Rapid Rail corridor has been planned for Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat and Delhi-Gurgaon-Rewari-Alwar,  for which Rs 40,000 crore will be invested.

‘A new railway line is under construction between Sonipat and Gohana, ultimately going up to Jind. Sonipat-Kundli area, located on GT road is next door to Delhi, has great potential for development. It is connected with six-lane NH-1, KMP Expressway and major railway line, which will be beneficial for the people residing there,’ said a Delhi Metro Railway Corporation DMRC official.

An international horticulture market is coming up a Gannaur, which will be a potential hub for export of fruits, flowers and vegetables. It is spread over an area of about 2,500 acres with Electronic Hardware Technology Park and a Food Park in Rai.

A new IMT, planned near Kharkhauda and Industrial township, is proposed to be developed near Gohana, to make Haryana more appealing.

With regard to the employment opportunities of the state, Hooda said, ‘Another challenge was of creating employment opportunities for the youth. Increase in the power generation capacity and availability of excellent infrastructure helped in increasing the pace of industrialisation, leading to more employment opportunities in Haryana.’

Rajiv Gandhi Education City is being developed in this area and 11 reputed educational institutions, including National Law University and the extension campus of IIT Delhi, have been allotted land so that education in the state would be given a boost.
