Some party leaders behind Cong’s debacle in 2012, says Beni Prasad

Dropping a bomb shell AICC working committee member and union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma on Tuesday blamed some senior party leaders of conspiring against party candidates to ensure their defeat in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

‘The announcement to give 4.5 per cent reservation to Muslims and the Batla House incident raised by some senior Congress leaders during the time of the campaign had boomeranged. This in fact helped the Samajwadi Party in the assembly elections,’ he said without taking names of any leader.

Addressing a press conference here, Verma, said that a ‘B team of Samajwadi Party was working inside the Congress during the assembly elections. ‘Tickets were sold  by Congress leaders and they took money from the SP leaders to ensure defeat of their own candidatess. The defeat of Congress candidates in Rae Bareli, Amethi, Gonda and Barabanki districts was enough proof of this conspiracy,’ he said. Verma said SP had re-paid handsomely to these Congress leaders once they came to power in Uttar Pradesh.  The union minister said that Congress high command had learnt a lesson during the 2012 assembly elections and now Rahul Gandhi would ensure that such thing is not repeated in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Claiming that Rahul Gandhi is the only eligible candidate for the Prime Minister’s post, the AICC member said that there was no chance of Narendra Modi becoming the PM of the country. ‘Our country will never accept a person as PM who was responsible for the massacre of innocent people,’ he said.

The Congress leader also went to the extent of saying that the party would not mind an alliance with BSP to defeat the SP in UP during the Lok Sabha elections. ‘Congress could join hands with the BSP in Mainpuri and other places to defeat the SP candidates,’ he announced. Mulayam Singh Yadav is the SP candidate from Mainpuri.

Criticizing the Samajwadi Party government for its failure in all fields, he said that terror accused Khalid Mujahid was given poison by the police.
