Some court orders difficult to follow, says Nitin Gadkari

‘I am exactly telling you the truth. Suppose, someone wants to run a government, the process is simple. You have to fight elections ... but a media house or judiciary cannot take charge of administration. I am sorry to say in many cases, the way in which decisions are given by the courts, it is difficult to execute,’ Gadkari, who is all set to bring fundamental changes in land acquisition Act, said while speaking at the India Economic Summit in New Delhi.

Gadkari however said, ‘I have respect for judiciary, I have respect for judges but at the same time this poor country needs development’. The senior minister’s comments came against the backdrop of many projects pending due to litigation related to environmental and other issues as several infrastructure projects in the country have been hit by court judgements.  The union minister, on the issue of woes of infrastructure sector, said, ‘Efforts are being made to convert the problems into opportunities.’

While holding ‘microscopic minority’ responsible for opposing environmental clearances, Gadkari said that an eccentric approach to anything is not good. Meanwhile, the land reform activist Aruna Roy refused to comment on the matter. While talking to Millennium Post, Roy said, ‘It’s not possible to comment without knowing that in which context the minister has said this.’

Also, in an addition to the efforts to create rural jobs, the senior minister said that a cabinet note is being prepared to utilise wastelands for setting up industries through innovative business approach. ‘We are shortly going to approach the cabinet on the policy of utilising wasteland for employment generation,’ Gadkari said, adding that there are huge chunks of wasteland available that can be utilised for setting up some edible oil or non-edible oil industries, he said.
