So what’s your best move, Delhi?

They say Any Body Can Dance, we agree, but perhaps not entirely. Delhi’s going to get a lesson in contemporary and some of the best dancers from across the city will be showcasing their talents over a two day festival. Named Quarterfest, this contemporary festival will be bringing in dance companies from the city to a common platform. The Indian Habitat Centre in collaboration with a city-based dance company Sadhya brings Quarterfest for a second time after receiving tremendous response from dance enthusiasts last year.

Different dance companies will be presenting their own interpretations of the ‘contemporary’ style explains Nalini Sharma from Sadhya. The main idea behind Quarterfest is to bring in varied styles performing the contemporary adding their own touches to it. The festival promises to bring a repertoire of works reflecting varied foundations and their unique style of drawing from the same root – contemporary dance. Quarterfest is taking place under the artistic direction of Santosh Nair of Sadhya.

The best part about the two day celebration this year is perhaps that the opening day (8 December) coincides with the birth anniversary of Uday Shankar, the father of contemporary dance in India. So what better way to pay a tribute to the man who started it all? Infact, adds Nalini, the opening piece, aptly called Ode to the Gurus – is a tribute to Shankar.

So jacket up and head over this weekend, Quarterfest promises to be quite the treat.
