A woman executive at Snapdeal, who was allegedly kidnapped from a Metro station, managed to reach home from Panipat in Haryana after 36 hours, police said. They added that her friends are being interrogated to ascertain if anyone known was involved in the crime.
Deepti Sarna (23) was abducted on Wednesday night while returning home from the Vaishali Metro station in Ghaziabad.
On Friday morning, she called up her father Narendra Sarna and told him that she had managed to flee from her abductors and had reached the New Delhi Railway Station. Her grandfather KN Sarna said at 6 am, she called up from an unknown mobile number and told him that she had managed to flee and asked him to pick her up from the station.
The father, who immediately rushed to Delhi, also informed the police. “We reached the railway station and escorted her to her residence. The SSP also met the girl at the border and inquired briefly,” said Salman Taj Patil, SP (City).
The woman and her family were asked to come with them to the Vaishali police post where the SSP questioned the victim and allowed them to go later.
The woman was taken for a medical test but hospital sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that only a partial examination could be conducted since she refused to give consent for the examination of her private parts. In such a case, only outside physical injuries are taken on record.
The police are also screening the executive’s personal life. Top police sources said they are probing her former boyfriend Vikram and the present one, whom she called when kidnapped, as they want to ascertain whether they were involved. The thrust is being given to her friends in addition to other angles.
Deepti told the police that she was blindfolded after she made the last call to her father and a friend and she did not know where she was exactly taken. She said her abductors treated her well, providing food of her choice.
During the 36 hours, she was in their grip, they transported her on a motorcycle, car and on foot, and also kept her in a sugarcane field also for sometime. She said they told her that they had high connections in political circles and could arrange a meeting with a high-power politician also.
She said that early on Friday, she was left on a railway platform, with her captors giving her Rs 100 for fare and took a train, which seemed going to Delhi. On her way, she made out one of the stations they passed as Narela and took a help from a passenger to call her father and tell him that she was reaching the New Delhi Railway Station.
Deepti was abducted by four men in the garb of an auto driver and passengers on Wednesday night while on her way to her home here. She usually took the Metro up to Vaishali station in Ghaziabad, and from there, an auto-rickshaw to her house, located around eight km from the station.
“The girl was abducted from Vaishali Metro station by four abductors in an auto. They changed to another vehicle when their auto developed some snag and could not proceed further beyond Raj Nagar Extension. From there they reached Morti village on foot and allowed the other woman to go,” said a police officer.
