An exhibition of the north-eastern culture and handicrafts along with tunes and music from eight states is on at Dilli Haat.
This is being organised by the Director of Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward classes, Govt. of Assam. The event kickstarted with the celebration of Assam Day. It also had designer Vikram Rai Medhi, who introduced a splash of colourful and vibrant Indo-western line of rich Assam silk mekhala chadars, sarees and western line in eri and tribal textiles on the runway.
Some of the models who sashayed down the runways were Nayanika Chaterjee, Saba, Lina among other international models.
The first day saw the celebration of Assam. Events like runway shows and dance performances were held. The sattriya dance, a classical form of the Vaishnavite Shankar Dev’s creation, was also performed. One could also see the celebration of Bihu by the Husori group which brings forth the joyous expression of the Assamese people.
The eight day celebration will showcase fashion, music and exhibits from each north eastern state, starting from Assam, followed by Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Sikkim.
