Sleaze CD of Cong MLA creates further split in party

A day before Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi kick-started electioneering in Malwa-Nimar region from Indore, the split within the party seemed wide open, following an alleged sleaze CD that went viral on social media featuring sitting MLA from Depalpur, Satyanaryan Patel.

The CD has sparked a bitter fight between the sitting MLA and his arch rival Vishal Patel, a fellow Congress party member, who is also contending for a ticket from the same constituency.

MLA Satyanarayan Patel, among one of the richest legislators in the state, gave a clean chit to the opposition in the entire episode by alleging the hand of his party men, naming Vishal Patel, who wanted to sabotage the prospects of his re-nomination from Depalpur. Vishal Patel held a separate press conference later on Wedensday evening terming the allegations as baseless.

It is for the second time when the apparent united Congress suffered a jolt in the state. Earlier, prior to Rahul Gandhi’s visit in Datia, sitting Congress MLA Javier Medha from the home turf of party’s state president Kantilal Bhuria was booked on a complaint of personal staff of Jhabua district Congress president Suresh Chandra Jain.

Just after the CD got out in the open, Patel addressed a press conference, while senior Congress leaders including Sanjay Nirupam, Kantilal Bhuria, Sajjan Verma and Bala Bachchan were addressing the media on Rahul Gandhi’s visit. ‘The CD is morphed and is intended to malign my image. I have sent the CD for forensic examination. It is a fake CD. I have written to union home minister and police to probe the case. I will raise the matter on a suitable party forum and will not hesitate in moving the court too,’ said Patel who broke down at the conference. He accused his arch party rival Vishal Patel for morphing CD and few others who have been pressurising him to relinquish his claim to party ticket.

When asked whether he will be taking up the issue with Rahul Gandhi who will address the public in city on Thursday and affect his nomination from the Depalpur seat, he said, ‘The matter will be raised on suitable party forum. This will not at all affect our supporters participation in the Rahul Gandhi’s rally.’ He added saying that the issue will not spoil his candidature from the seat and he will come out clean.
