The RTI activist Chandra Mohan Sharma, who faked his own death was brought to Noida on Thursday after being arrested in Kolar district of Karnataka.
Sharma revealed before police that he had hatched the conspiracy to get the insurance amount and live with his girlfriend. The police have also arrested his girlfriend and are probing her role in the conspiracy. His brother-in-law, Videsh Kumar, is also suspected of being a part of the plot.
In a press conference, the police said that Sharma was upset as his financial situation was not good enough. A day before he faked his death, he and Videsh spotted a mentally challenged man near Ansal Plaza in Greater Noida and planned to kill him. On 1 May, Videsh brought the person at Aldeco crossing in Noida where Chandra Mohan was already present in his car. There, they killed the person and set the car on fire.
Soon after the incident, Chandra Mohan left for Bangalore where he joined a car manufacturing company. One month later, his girlfriend also went missing and police investigations revealed that she was using a SIM card that belonged to Chandra Mohan. The police further informed that around a month back, the family of the girl received a call about her presence near Bangalore which was made by Chandra Mohan himself.
When the police reached Bangalore, it was revealed that Chandra Mohan was working with a company in Hoshiyarpur village of Kolar district. He was arrested outside his company. ‘During initial investigations, he tried to hide his identity but later confessed to the crime’, said Preetinder Singh, senior superintendent of police, Gautambudh Nagar.
‘Role of his brother-in-law and other family members are also being probed’, said Singh during the press briefing.
