Two days after Deepak Bharadwaj (62) was murdered by three unidentified people, his wife is under the police scanner. Delhi police is questioning Bharadwaj’s wife, Ramesh Kumari, in connection with the BSP leader’s murder on Tuesday at his farmhouse in Rajokri area of south Delhi.
According to a police official, Kumari along with her two sons Hitesh and Nitesh are being questioned in the case. 'There is a possibility that some one very close to Bharadwaj had hired contract killers to kill Bharadwaj,' the official added.
The official said, 'Bhardwaj's wife was questioned because police wanted to know if she had a grudge against her husband since she didn’t live with her husband. Kumari has been living with her younger son, Nitesh, in Dwarka, for the past several months.'
After Nitesh had a dispute with his father over some property, he started living separately and his mother also moved out to live with him. Nitesh had started a separate real estate business.
A source in the police said, 'Bharadwaj had decided to distribute the property among his two sons, but he was planning to give a bigger share of the property to his elder son Hitesh. Kumari was upset about this. She was living with the younger son-Nitesh and wanted him to get the maximum share of the property.'
A few months ago before Bharadwaj's murder, his younger son Nitesh (32) had lodged an FIR against him regarding a property dispute. Police is analysing this angle as well and questioning Nitesh regarding the cross-complaint.
'Information regarding Bhardwaj's recent property and business deals and any disputes is being probed,’ the official said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chhaya Sharma said that 25 CCTV cameras had been installed at Bharadwaj’s farmhouse, spread over 35-acres of land. Additionally, 40 guards were deployed for the security of the place. 'Footages from all the cameras have been analysed and the guards are being questioned to draw up the exact happenings of that day,' Sharma added.
The Skoda car in which the three unidentified armed assailants came to kill Bharadwaj has been recovered from Haryana. 'Raids are being carried in Haryana, Uttarakhand and Western Uttar Pradesh,' Sharma added.
