Skill development is a key priority for FPI sector

The Government has been running various programmes to enhance skill development in Food Processing Sector.  Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in Rajya Sabha on Friday said, “For promotion and development of food processing sector in the country, Ministry of Food Processing Industries is implementing various Central sector schemes, which include : scheme for infrastructure development for food processing having components of mega food parks, integrated cold chain, value addition and preservation infrastructure and modernisation of abattoirs,  scheme of technology up-gradation / establishment / modernisation of food processing industries (spill- over liabilities),  scheme for quality assurance, codex standards, research and development and other promotional activities, scheme for human resource development (spill-over liabilities) and scheme of strengthening of Institutions and providing assistance to entrepreneurs.”

The minister said that,“ Although Ministry of Food Processing Industries does not operate any specific scheme for skill development, it has two academic-cum -research Institutions viz–National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), a deemed university.
