Six-year-old falls into boiling cauldron, suffers burn injuries

According to police, the oil was being heated by a street vendor to prepare jalebis. His cart was parked in a narrow lane of Ashok Vihar and according to the locals, he had illegally placed his vehicle on the street where there is a lot of traffic  pedestrians movement is heavy. The accused has been identified as Shree Chand who was arrested from the spot.

The victim, identified as Lakshmi, is a student of Class II and is studying in a government school situated in Wazirpur area of Ashok Vihar. Satish, her father, works as a security guard at a factory.

At the time of the incident, Sharma was standing on the street outside his home and his daughter Lakshmi was playing nearby at around 6 pm on Saturday. “The vendor had left the oil for boiling and was occupied with other preparations required for making the sweet. Suddenly, the girl stumbled and fell into the oil cauldron that overturned as a result. A lot of the hot oil spilled over her,” a police officer said.

Sharma immediately rushed his daughter to a private hospital from where she was referred to Lok Nayak Hospital. She received burn injuries on her abdomen and limbs.

Meanwhile, Chand has been arrested and has been booked for endangering the personal safety of others.
