According to a source, no clinching evidence was found against the suspects so senior police officials decided to release them. However, a special team has been formed that will monitor their movement.
On May 3, the Special Cell had arrested three persons – Sajid, a 19-year-old tailor who is a resident of Chand Bagh, Sameer Ahmed and Shakeer Ansari. The latter two were arrested with the help of Anti-Terror Squad of the UP police for their alleged involvement with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) members and storing IED explosives, said police sources.
The source added that all the released accused have been directed to visit the special cell police station with their respective families on Monday. Also, they have been asked to keep their mobile phones switched on at all times.
However, a clean chit has not been given to these suspects, sources said.
“In association with NGOs working with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which will provide psychological assistance to the suspects, religious and social counsellors too will assist the police,” said the senior officers.
“As part of the de-radicalisation workshops, we seek assistance from speakers, psychiatrists and psychologists. Under the part, where religious counselling will be provided, we will seek help from clerics and also from neighbours of theses suspects, who will come forward and make them understand that it is against the religion to kill anyone,” added the sources.
