Six molest woman, then beat up cop

A 22-year-old Delhi policeman was beaten up by a group of six persons, when he reportedly tried to rescue a girl being molested by the accused.
The incident was reported late on Monday evening in New Ashok Nagar area of east Delhi, where the victim was traveling with her brother. Delhi police have arrested one of the six accused from the spot. The others, however, are still absconding.
According to the police, during the incident, Constable Mohit Kumar posted at New Ashok Nagar police station was brutally beaten up by the six accused. Kumar reached Eastend Apartment at Ashok Nagar after receiving an information that a scuffle had taken place there.
Reportedly, Ujjwal, 25, was returning to his residence with his 22-year-old sister in their Maruti Alto car around 10.20 pm. ‘Mid-way, Ujjwal stopped his car in the market area to buy some household items. A group of six persons, who were standing near a wine shop, saw Neetu (name changed) alone in the car. Finding it a good opportunity, they started passing lewd comments on her,’ said a police official, quoting the victim.
‘I ran towards the car noticing that the group was molesting my sister. I resisted their attempt but they started beating me up. Neetu then came out of the car and tried to save me. One of the accused then slapped her as well,’ Ujjwal told police.
Meanwhile, some policemen patrolling the area reached the spot. By the, the accused had beaten up constable Kumar as well. The cops managed to nab one of the accused while other fled away. ‘He has been identified as Neeraj, 19, a Class XI student, resident of New Ashok Nagar. Investigation is on to trace the remaining accused,’ the official added.
The victims were taken to nearby hospital, from where they were discharged after first aid. ‘A case under sections 323 (voluntarily causes hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 34 (acts done by several persons in futherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code has been registered,’ the official added.
COUPLE HELD FOR ASSAULTING COP
A couple was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly obstructing and assaulting a policeman on duty in northeast Delhi. The arrested couple has been identified as Deepak Kumar and Preeti Verma with police claiming that they were in an inebriated state when they charged at the policeman. According to a police statement, a PCR call was received yesterday regarding an accident involving a car and a motorcycle at Indian Oil petrol pump near Agarwal City Mall. Head Constable Sahan Singh reached the spot. However, the driver of the car was aggressive and he started misbehaving and even caught hold of his collar, police alleged. At this moment, two people from the public namely Rakesh Kumar Pandey and Krishan Kumar Mishra intervened and tried to pacify the driver but their efforts went in vain. Meanwhile, a woman sitting in the car also came out and start hurling abuses. She threatened to tear her clothes in order to implicate them in a false case, police alleged. When the Head Constable advised her to mind her language in public place, she assaulted him and caught hold of collar of his uniform threatening to bring molestation charges against him too, police said. Both the accused appeared to be under influence of liquor and their subsequent, medical examination in hospital confirmed this, police claimed in a statement. Accordingly, an FIR was registered in this regard and both the man and the woman were arrested, it said.
