Six kids recovered after going missing to ‘explore’ city

A case of alleged kidnapping of six minor children, which sent police into a tizzy, ended in relief for the parents after all of them were recovered safe and sound following what turns out was an outing by them to ‘explore’ the city on their own.

A mega search was launched by police after it was yesterday reported that six minor children had been kidnapped from the same locality of west Delhi.

The matter came to light at around 9:30 am on Tuesday when parents of four of the children between eight and 13 years of age reached Uttam Nagar police station to file a complaint that their children had been allegedly kidnapped.

The complaint and the efforts thereafter to trace the kids kept police on their toes for nearly 12 hours.
The search bore fruit when one of the missing children was spotted near Tilak Nagar Gurdwara. A police team identified the kid on the basis of a photograph and then contacted the parents.

‘Later on, the other friends were located nearby and handed over to their parents. They will be produced before a Child Welfare Committee as per the laid down procedure,’ said deputy commissioner of police (west), Ranvir Singh.

All the children belong to middle-class families staying in Uttam Nagar. They used to play together and had left their residence on Monday night to see malls, cinema halls and other places of interest in the New Delhi area.

It was revealed that they had dinner at a Gurdwara and spent the night in the open inside a park. Once they had gone on their adventure, the kids became afraid of returning home out of fear of their parents, Singh added.

Earlier, five teams from Uttam Nagar police station were constituted to find the children with the search operation closely monitored by senior law enforcement officials.

‘Details of the children were shared with the Missing Persons Squad, National Crime Record Bureau, State Crime Record Bureau, District Missing Persons Unit and everybody was requested to help in the search,’ Singh added.
