Six held for kidnapping 9-month-old

Six persons, including three women, were arrested for kidnapping a nine-month- old boy in the early hours of Wednesday. The group had demanded a ransom of two lakh rupees from the parents of the boy and was nabbed from Rajnagar Extension while trying to flee with infant to Aligarh.

‘Manoj and his wife Reena, in their late twenties, were worried about not having any child even after over five years of their marriage. Therefore, they along their relatives Ashok and Shakuntala, hatched a conspiracy to kidnap their neighbour Ramesh Chand’s son,’ said Nitin Tiwari, Senior Superintend of Police (SSP) Ghaziabad.

The couple also convinced Reena’s mother Shanta (58) to become a part in the conspiracy. ‘They accepted that they had planned to kidnap the child just after he was born but could not get the opportunity,’ Tiwari added.

The accused, all residents of Bombay Colony in Nandgram area, kidnapped the child late last night.
‘After abducting the minor, they went to an another location in the district,’ a police officer said. Acting on Chand’s complaint, the four accused were traced and arrested, the police official said, adding the boy has been handed over to his family.
