With the arrest of six persons, the UP Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday claimed to have solved a case wherein the accused had allegedly gang-raped a woman and had uploaded its clip on the Internet. In 2015, the Supreme Court had directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the case, wherein 12 obscene video clips – featuring the victim – went viral on the Internet. The CBI released the photographs of the accused persons and had declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh on their arrest.
The police said the main accused was identified as Sumit of Muzaffarnagar, while the other five were identified as Sanjay, Neeraj, Aanuj, Vinod, and Rajender – all from Saharanpur. The six allegedly gang-raped the woman, made its video and uploaded the clips on the Internet. The police said the victim and the accused were not known to each other.
The agency had directed the STF to assist in the identification and arrest of the accused. A team under Rajkumar Mishra, DSP (STF) was formed to probe the case. “The STF got a tip-off about a person identified as Sumit and shared his details with the CBI. A team was sent to Muzaffarnagar and he was arrested from there,” said Mishra.
“We showed that video clip to the accused. Sumit confessed that he along with his friends had committed the crime in Badgaon village of Saharanpur district, made its video and uploaded the clips on the Internet,” he added.
