SIT to probe Sunanda murder

“The SIT will be headed by deputy commissioner of police (south) Prem Nath and additional deputy commissioner of police (south) PS Kushwah. Further the team will consist of one Inspector and Station head officer (Sarojini Nagar) Vir Krishan Pal Singh,” Bassi said.

On daily basis the team has been instructed to report the developments in the re-investigation to Deepak Mishra, special commissioner of police, law and order who will further report the development to the commissioner.

“We will take all necessary steps as per our investigation plan,” Bassi added. The Police Commissioner also did not rule out questioning her husband Shashi Tharoor, saying “Whatever necessary will be done” in investigating the case.

When asked about the delay in registering FIR, Bassi said the final medical report from AIIMS warranted the FIR to be filed so that Pushkar’s viscera samples can be sent abroad for further tests.

“When we file a case under Sec 302 of IPC, it means we have prima facie reasons to believe that it is a case of murder,” Bassi said.

Recently Delhi Police team also visited the hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where Sunanda was admitted days before she was found dead at The Leela Palace Hotel in Chanakyapuri on January 17, 2014. A senior police official, requesting anonymity said, “The doctors who had treated Sunanda were questioned and were asked to share her medical records.”

The SIT team will also evaluate the forensic report of Sunanda’s mobile phones and laptop. Also, the hotel staff and the doctor who examined her first will be questioned again, the official said.
