The on-going MCD strike which is causing various problems to citizens of Delhi has drawn sharp criticism from the deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia. Sisodia on Saturday said that there is a scam in the MCD as state government had disbursed the funds to pay 12 months worth of salaries of the Corporation workers.
Sisodia has made the statement against the backdrop of intensified protests and demonstrations and at a time where there is a criticism of lack of political accountability leading to a civic mess in the city.
Dealing with the crisis, Sisodia said: “The Public Works Department (PWD) has deployed 93 vehicles to clean the garbage dumps. We have informed the Delhi Police as to which areas these vehicles will be operating in.” Sisodia also said that regarding the crisis the Delhi Government had directed the police to provide security and extra labourers with the trucks.
Sisodia slammed the MCD saying that they had failed in their duties and now the Delhi government is taking the onus of cleaning the Capital. He assured that by Sunday the situation in the city will be better.
“We had given money for the salary of 12 months, where did that money go?” Sisodia said on Saturday adding that according to him there was a bigger scam in the MCD.
The North and the East MCDs which have been unable to pay the workers for the past 3-4 months due to fund crunches have seen 1.5 lakh workers shun work and protest on the streets of the city, demanding payment of due salaries.
Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP members also joined the protesters and shouted slogans against CM Arvind Kejriwal, demanding action.
