Sisodia launches ‘Kitabgiri’ & ‘Touch Heal’ initiatives

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday launched two initiatives — Kitabgiri and Touch Heal for the disadvantaged section of society. While the former is related to opening Mohalla Libraries with books collected from donation the latter is aimed at a free OPD for the section of society living Below Poverty Line (BPL).

“If the government sector properly cares for health and education, people will care the rest on their own,” said Manish Sisodia. Praising the initiatives of Kitabgiri he emphasised that the teaching in classrooms have become very boring so the importance of next door libraries becomes more pertinent to attract the pupils to retain self learning. “I think we should also start Kahangiri, (story telling) which was our ancient mode of teaching, wherein, learned people and students should be promoted to impart knowledge through storytelling,” he added. He also emphasised on the need to open libraries for housewives who are cut off from mainstream knowledge and not updated about changing scenario of society and political system. He also highlighted the importance of ‘Healing Touch’ at a time when the cost of treatment has sky rocketed. “The notion that children don’t like books does not hold water. In my brief experience, I found parents are more responsible as they hardly ever bring their children to public libraries. I am working with a mission to bring out children from video games and draw them to libraries and the results are highly encouraging,” said Dipak Bajpai, founder of Bharat Akshra Social Organisation (BASO).
