Sisodia challenges PM Modi at East Delhi campus inauguration

“Modiji you do what you know, we will do what we know,” said Sisodia after inaugurating the East Delhi campus of Ambedkar University of Delhi (AUD) in Karampura.

Sisodia’s remarks came in the wake of a raid by the Income Tax Department at the residence of one of his party MLAs Kartar Singh Tanwar on Wednesday. Tanwar is the 11th MLA to face criminal case against him. He added that the “crackdown” of the Central government would not deter his government from doing good works for the people of Delhi.

Speaking to the faculty of the University, he asked them to make East Delhi campus a much sought-after campus in the country.

“The proportion of increasing the seats every year by 10 to 100 will not work. More than half of 2.5 lakh students, who pass out of schools every year, are not able to make it to the colleges for higher studies. We will soon create facilities for all of them,” he added. He stressed upon improving the quality of education and at the same time increasing the seats. He emphasised on the need for creating an ambience to have research activities in the campus along with skill related courses. Shyam B Menon, Vice-Chancellor shared the vision of Dr B R Ambedkar for social justice and transformation.

The AUD campus has a capacity of accommodating 200 undergraduate students in four courses at the moment and will accommodate over 2,200 students by 2019.  It aims at becoming a multi-campus University with facilities across the city.

Till now, it has been operating from its campus at Kashmere Gate where 40 undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes are offered currently. Two new campuses in Rohini and Dheerpurare are scheduled to function from 2020. The University focuses on research and teaching in social sciences and humanities.
