Sikh woman killed in Baramulla, community members stage stir

A 56-year-old woman was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday, triggering protest by members of the community, police said.
Kundan Kaur was attacked while on her way to a gurdwara in Old Town Baramulla around 5.30 am, an official said. She was rushed to the district hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, the official said adding, the victim bore injuries on her head and neck.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered. Following the incident, members of the Sikh community staged protests as they demanded the arrest of the culprits, the official said, adding that the motive of the crime was yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, an SIT has been formed to investigate the case.
SSP Baramulla has constituted the SIT under the chairmanship of DySP (Hqrs) Feroz Yehya to investigate the murder case, a police spokesman said.
He said the SIT has been directed to nail down the culprits and produce the case for judicial determination at an earliest.
“SIT has been asked to submit the progress of case on daily basis,” the spokesman said.
