Shoe hurled at Kejriwal: Accused remanded to 1-day judicial custody

Prakash, 28, is the national general secretary of the Aam Aadmi Sena. He was produced before a duty metropolitan magistrate and was sent to judicial custody, after the police said he was not required for custodial interrogation.

The shoe had not hit Kejriwal as it was quickly deflected by an official standing near the Chief Minister, who, later, continued with the press conference.

Prakash, who was arrested on Saturday, had first interrupted Kejriwal when he was briefing reporters at the media centre of the Delhi Secretariat about the rollout of the second phase of the odd-even scheme and had thereafter thrown a shoe and a CD at him.

Prakash had claimed that he was angry with Kejriwal for not taking action against those involved in alleged irregularities in the distribution of CNG stickers.

Prakash was thrashed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers before he was whisked away by the police after the incident around 4:10 pm.

According to the police, Prakash is a resident of Begampur in North-West Delhi and works as a property dealer.

Prakash had talked about the alleged irregularities in the distribution of CNG stickers, which are required for CNG-run cars to get exemption from the restrictions of the odd-even scheme. He had alleged that the stickers were being sold for Rs 1,000 each at a CNG station near CGO complex in Lodhi Road and claimed to have done a sting operation about it on April 7.

On January 17, a woman had thrown ink at Kejriwal at a public rally held to celebrate the “success” of the first phase of odd-even scheme.

Now, only accredited scribes to be allowed in Delhi Secretariat
In the wake of shoe-hurling incident at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday, the government has decided to allow only those media persons, who are accredited by the Directorate of Information and Publicity (DIP). According to sources, the government is considering to enforce the new regulations at the earliest, possibly from Monday. At present, to gain entry to the DIP hall at gate number 6 of Delhi Secretariat, media persons have to just pass through a security check.

This is the hall, where one Ved Prakash had hurled a shoe at Kejriwal, while the latter was addressing a press conference on Saturday. The DIP hall has facilities such as computers and television for journalists.

“Now, journalists holding a DIP card will only be allowed in the hall,” said a senior officer.

The new rule if implemented, will allow only accredited journalists in the Delhi Secretariat.

At present, non- accredited journalists can go inside the Delhi Secretariat, after getting passes at Media Centre after 3 pm.
