SHO transferred; 5 cops slapped with murder, abduction charges

A day after sheer brutality of Delhi Police came to light when five policemen abducted a 30-year-old businessman, Manoj Rana, and bashed him up in a secluded barrack, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bindapur police station has been sent to district lines.

Meanwhile, the five policemen were arrested and slapped with murder and abduction charges.
On Tuesday, the case was transferred to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. Eye-witnesses alleged that six men after chasing Rana, caught him and started beating him up.

Further, they stopped an auto-rickshaw and instructed the passengers to get down from the vehicle. They then pulled him inside and took him to Bindapur police post. Meanwhile, Rana’s friends informed his family about the incident. His wife was not present at his residence as she had gone to her paternal house in Lucknow with his six-month-old son. They had got married one and a half years ago.

It was reported that Rana was an accused in a recent case of opening fire during a wedding in Uttam Nagar.

The police had been looking for him since a case had been registered. The police officials claimed that he was picked up for an investigation.

‘Few hours after his detention, he was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhay hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival,’ a source added. Hearing about the demise of Rana, his family members and peer groups turned violent and a protest was carried out.

A scuffle between the policemen and locals took place in Pankha Road area, injuring several people.
On the basis of the complaint filed by the deceased’s family members, a CCTV footage accessed from the hospital was scanned to identify the five policemen who took him to the hospital. They have been identified as head constable Bhoop Singh and constables: Rajesh, Sudeep, Uttam and Arvind. All of them have been charged with murder and abduction.

‘The SHO of Bindapur police station has been sent to district lines,’ a senior police official said.
According to sources, the policemen who murdered Rana were forcing him to admit that he was the owner of the illegal weapon from which he had opened fire in the recent past. But he refused to admit any false claims that had allegedly annoyed the cops who then beat him up to death.
