Shifting of IAS officer ordered in J&K over suicide bid by colleague

Deputy Speaker of J&K Assembly Nazir Ahmad Gurezi on Monday directed the state government to remove an IAS officer as his name had figured in an alleged suicide bid by a woman IAS officer two weeks ago.

The issue was raised by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Javaid Mustafa Mir, who said acts of few bad officers were unnecessarily bringing disrepute to the entire bureaucracy.

He asked if an FIR was registered in the case. Gurezi directed the government to shift the officer immediately. “The department he heads has 50 per cent women employees. Transfer the officer and allot him an insensitive (sic) post,” he said.

The IAS officer, who allegedly tried to commit suicide, was among six officers transferred by state Cabinet on Sunday.
