A senior lawyer belonging to the minority Shia sect was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen near the Lahore High Court complex on Friday, police and witnesses said. Shakir Ali Rizvi was driving to the High Court when the gunmen fired at his vehicle. He was killed instantly. Police surrounded the area after the incident but the killers managed to escape.
No group claimed responsibility for the incident though such attacks on Shias are usually blamed on the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Security at the High Court complex was beefed up after the incident. The High Court Bar Association announced it would boycott the courts to protest the killing of the lawyer.
