The Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) has issued notices to former chief minister Sheila Dikshit and three other former Delhi ministers over their dues on government bungalows that they earlier occupied. Sources said that former minister Kiran Walia, Harun Yusuf and Arvinder Singh Lovely were also served notices for payment of dues at the earliest.
Sheila Dikshit and Kiran Walia had vacated their official bungalows earlier this month. According to Land and Building’s by-laws, the ministers can stay in the government bungalows free of cost for 15 days after leaving their posts. However after that they have to pay the rent for the bungalow at market rates. Any former minister can occupy a bungalow for six months after demitting office. A few days back former chief minister Sheila Dikshit and former education minister Kiran Walia vacated their bungalows. ‘Shiela Dikshit has to pay Rs 3.25 lakh, as her bungalow falls in Lutyen’s Delhi.
Walia has to pay 2.80 lakhs. Yusuf has to pay 2.90 lakh and Lovely has to pay an amount of Rs 3.15 lakh,’ said a PWD official. Yusuf and Lovely have not vacated the government bungalows yet.
Outgoing chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will also complete his 15 day grace period in his official flat at 5, Tilak Lane. ‘Citing the board exam of his children Kejriwal has demanded the central government to issue the same flat to his wife, who is a senior Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer. He said that if the government denies issuing the same flat, he will pay the rent on market rate,’ said a senior government official.
