Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday stated that opposition parties in the capital city have been misleading the people by making false promises of bringing substantial reduction in power tariff, if they win the upcoming assembly elections. She substantiated her point by saying that tariff rates can be brought down by only effecting longer power cuts of up to 10 hours or more.
‘Our government is sensitive to the needs of the poor and middle class families as it has given relief in power tariff to around 73 per cent households in the city.
‘The subsidy given by the government has been increased from Re 1 to Rs 1.20 up to 200 units consumption and between 201 to 400 units the tariff has been brought down from Rs 5.80 to Rs 5 per unit,’ said Dikshit.
She exhorted people to keep these forces at bay as they have no plans for development. The city government during the past 15 years has developed Delhi by leaps and bounds. She referred to the development that has taken place in almost all sectors including transport, education, health, basic infrastructure, unauthorized colonies, economic condition and social sectors.
Dikshit stated that the Food Security Programme is going to help around 75 lakh persons in Delhi. ‘We are committed to overcome hunger in the city,’ she said. Dikshit was speaking at a function organised to inaugurate the work for the provision of a sewerage system in more than 12 unauthorized colonies under Kondli Assembly segment.
