Sheila resurfaces in city politics

Despite former chief Minister Sheila Dikshit ruling out participation in the next assembly polls, she has been nominated to party’s powerful election Committee. More importantly her known loyalist Kanwar Karan Singh too has been put on the panel.

Singh, who was chief whip and secretary of legislature party when Dikshit was the Chief Minister, is also on party’s publicity Committee. Another known Dikshit loyalist, Chattar Singh, who has never been an MLA, has been put on the Manifesto Committee.

The Congress announced the names of the committee members only after getting clearance from party chief Sonia Gandhi. Among the members of the election committee are former Delhi chief minister Dikshit, Haroon Yusuf, party’s general Secretaries Janardhan Dwivedi and Ajay Maken, CWC member R K Dhawan, MPs Dr Karan Singh and Parwez Hashmi, former Delhi Congress president Subhash Chopra, JP Agarawal and Chaudhary Prem Singh. AICC Secretaries Manish Chatrath and Naseeb Singh, former MPs Ramesh Kumar and Mahabal Mishra, former legislators Jai Kishan, Hasan Ahmed, Devender Yadav, Surender Kumar, Kunwar Karan Singh, leader of the opposition in South MCD Farhad Suri and local Mehmood Zia.

Among the members of the manifesto committee are Yusuf, former Union minister Krishna Tirath, former city ministers Kiran Walia, Narender Nath and Ramakant Goswami, former legislators Mukesh Sharma, Bijender Singh, Charan Singh Kandera, Vijay Lochav, Malaram Gangwal, party’s Delhi IT head Radhika Khera, opposition leaders in the MCD Farhad Suri, Mukesh Goel and Varyam Kaur, former PCC heads and local leaders Chattar Singh, Abha Chaudhary, Rattan Singh, Jai Karan Chaudhary and Jagdish Yadav.

The members of the publicity committee include former city minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, former MLAs Prahlad Singh Sawhney, Asif Mohd. Khan, Kanwar Karan Singh, Hari Shankar Gupta, Anil Bharadwaj, Bhisham Sharma, party’s women unit head in Delhi Onika Mehrotra, municipal councillor Abhishek Dutt and local leaders Jitender Kumar Kochar, Brahm Yadav, Naresh Kumar, Amit Malik, Alok Sharma, Ragini Nayak, Amrita Dhawan, Sanjay Puri, Vijay Mohan, Jagjivan Sharma, Hari Kishan Jindal, Satender Sharma, Parminder Sharma and Rajesh Sharma.

The party has appointed local leaders Jagjivan Sharma, Ranjeet Yadav, Brij Mohan Sharma, Sunder Lal Ghavri and Parvez Mian as the members of its disciplinary committee. Sources said that the Congress was now going to announce the members of its district and block committees, which had been dissolved after the party’s humiliating defeat in the last Assembly polls.
