Sheila flags off 10 quick response vehicles for disaster management

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and National Disaster Management Authority chairman Shashidhar Reddy on Tuesday flagged off 10 quick-response vehicles (QRVs ) of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), from her residence.  Delhi revenue minister Arvinder Singh and divisional commissioner Dharam Pal were also present on the occasion.

Dikshit stated that the DDMA has been taking necessary steps to anticipate the gravity of the disaster. It has set up a 24X7 disaster helpline (1077) to coordinate disaster response efforts. Emergency Operation Centres (EOCs) are being established at the DDMA headquarters and all units of the District Disaster Management Authority. The DDMA is also working on transforming these EOCs with modern Global Information System (GIS)-based centres.

The chief minister expressed satisfaction over the commissioning of 10 QRVs. These QRVs are geared to respond to disasters in a very short span of time in order to avoid any loss of life.
