Sheila alleges lack of support from state unit for poll debacle

‘I felt, I didn’t get the support from my party which I should have,’ Dikshit said, while reacting to her party’s poor performance in the recently concluded polls.

Asserting that there should have been more ‘cohesion’ within the party, the Congress stalwart said, ‘The party and government went separate ways and that was a problem.’

Dikshit denied that the drubbing reflected on her government’s failure. ‘We tried our best to control prices. I don’t agree the power bills was an issue. I’ll be the first one to clap if power bills are brought down.’

The three-time chief minister was adamant that her government did take not the brunt of the anti-incumbency sentiment. ‘Certainly I can say our 15 years has no anti-incumbency,’ she said.

Asked about the effect of inflation on Assembly elections, Dikshit said the rising prices can’t be the reason for the party’s defeat, as it was a factor across the country including, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh , where BJP came back to power.

Dikshit said, ‘I will deeply introspect this colossal defeat in this election. This defeat was beyond my expectations’.

She refuted suggestions that the Congress would have no part to play in alliance formation, while noting that all she wants now is a stable government for Delhi.

About the Aam Aadmi Party’s astonishing debut in the national capital, Dikshit acknowledged that the Congress had ‘underestimated’ the former social activist’s  influence. ‘We didn’t understand the Kejriwal factor but there were corruption charges against him, which should have been seen but the people didn’t,’ she noted.

When asked as to what will be her message to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, who ended her 15-year rule and also defeated her in her own constituency by a staggering 25,000 votes, she said, ‘He is far wiser than I am.’
