Sharp rise in dengue cases in Delhi

As the cases of dengue in Delhi crossed the century mark on Thursday, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation [NDMC] led in number of cases under its administration. However, the number of cases in South Delhi are highest among all the 12 zones of civic bodies in Delhi.
According to the nodal centre for dengue and malaria, 113 confirmed dengue cases have been reported from various parts of the city in the season till Thursday. Among these, 48 came from the NDMC areas, while 43 came from South Delhi Municipal Corporation [SDMC] and 16 from the East Delhi Municipal Corporation [EDMC]. Of the 12 zones of the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Delhi [MCD], six fall in the jurisdiction of NDMC, four in SDMC and only two in EDMC areas.
'On Thursday, 18 new suspected dengue patients were admitted in various hospital of Delhi and their blood samples were sent for further examination,' said Mukesh Yadav, director, press and information, of SDMC. Among the 18 cases reported from the three civic bodies, 11 cases came from NDMC, followed by four cases from SDMC and 3 from EDMC area.
Among the zones, a maximum of 17 cases have been reported from South Delhi, 16 from Karol Bagh, 14 each from Civil Lines and Central Delhi and 10 cases from East Delhi [Shahdara-North] and six from North-East Delhi.
However, the intensity of dengue in Delhi is lesser in this year as compared to 2011 and 2010 but worse than 2009, when only 43 cases were reported by 4 October. So far one person has died due to dengue.
