Shame city: Minor brutally raped by juvenile neighbour

In an incident reminiscent of the 16 December gang rape in the capital, a 10-year-old girl was raped late on Sunday evening by her juvenile neighbour in south Delhi's R K Puram area. The accused also allegedly inserted a water pipe in the victim’s private parts. The accused has been arrested.
According to police, the 16-year-old juvenile has been apprehended and sent to a juvenile home after being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
'The victim and the juvenile offender live in the same neighbourhood and are residents of Janta Flats in the RK Puram area. The incident took place inside the toilet of the building, when the accused forcible took the girl inside the toilet and raped her. The accused also inserted a water pipe in the victim’s private parts. When the girl started crying, he fled from the spot,' said a police official.
By the time anyone could reach to help her, the vitim had lost her conscious. One of the passers-by, who had gone to use the public toilet, found the victim lying in a pool of blood and informed the police. A team of officials rushed to the spot and took the bleeding minor to Safdurjung hospital.
'A minor surgery was performed on her on Sunday night to repair the injury caused by the insertion of the water pipe. The girl is stable and out of danger, but is in a state of shock. She was moved to a hospital ward late on Monday afternoon,' a doctor treating her said.
After the surgery, the victim identified the accused and told the police that the accused was known to her for the past few years. On several occasions in the past, he had attempted to assault her, but she never informed anyone, because he threatened her against talking about it.
On the basis of the victim’s statement, a raid was conducted at Janta Flats and the accused was arrested from the area. He confessed to his crime soon after his arrest.
A case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO) has been registered against the accused by the police and further investigations are on, police said.
