According sources, the surrendering of Azharuddin Beg alias Laddan Mian in the scribe murder case is a big catch for Bihar police as he may open a can of worms against Shahabuddin.
“Police have sought a six-day remand of Mian that they may get on Friday. Laddan is a dreaded criminal and has been with Shahabuddin for more than a decade. We are pretty sure that Laddan would give some crucial information about the criminals involved in scribe murder case”, a source said, adding that the Bihar government under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given a free hand to cops to solve the case by earliest.
“It has come to notice that after the RJD came into power in alliance with JD(U), several noted criminals, who were staying away from Siwan, have started moving back to the city. This has resulted in a rise in criminal cases in the district and nearby areas,” a source said, adding that the arrest of notorious inter-state gangster Rayees Khan is one such example. Khan was evading the arrest for the last 10 years. He was first arrested in Delhi in 2006 and had jumped bail in the case.
Laddan had allegedly been given the contract to eliminate journalist Rajdev Ranjan, who was gunned down on May 13. His involvement in the crime came to light after the arrest of five youths, including shooter Rohit Kumar, who spilled the beans during interrogation.
Millennium Post had in its May 15 edition reported that the name of jailed don Mohammad Shahabuddin had come up in the journalist murder as after Ranjan published the news, he started getting threat calls. This was brought to the notice of administration, too, but they didn’t take it seriously.
