A week after his formal anointment as party president, Shah announced his new team of party office bearers that includes 11 vice-presidents, eight general secretaries and 14 secretaries. The new team also includes 10 party spokespersons, five of them are new.
What has surprised many is the fact that BJP general secretary Varun Gandhi has not been included in Shah’s crack team. Karnataka strongman BS Yeddyurappa has been made the vice-president of the state BJP unit.
Yeddyurappa, who had to quit the BJP in the wake of corruption charges, had rejoined party ahead of
the Lok Sabha election and was given ticket to contest from the Simoga seat in Karnataka.
Shah felt that induction of Yeddyurappa in the key team of the party will help the organisation in making a firm base in state. Many felt that with the new responsibility to Yeddyurappa, his rehabilitation in the BJP is now complete.
On the context of Varun’s non induction in the list, party insider said: ‘Party president was not happy with his work and was worried over his disconnect with the people in his constituency. Also, the recent comment made by our MP and his mother Maneka Gandhi over Varun’s possibility of becoming the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh has actually annoyed Shah. These are some of the factors, which went against him.’
Speaking to Millennium Post, party leader JP Nadda said: ‘Nearly 60 percent of the new office-bearers are less than 50 years of age. There are very few members who are over 60 years of age.’
‘Modiji’s mission will be implemented by this new Yuva BJP team under Amit Shah’s leadership,’ he added.
Unfortunately, the concept of ‘young team’ has failed to pave any way for Varun Gandhi, 34, who is the MP from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The new BJP chief has also named Bandaru Dattatrey (Telangana) and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi (UP) as vice-presidents. The new general secretaries are JP Nadda (Himachal Pradesh), and Rajiv Pratap Rudy (Bihar), Muralidhar Rao (Telangana), RSS spokesman Ram Madhav (Andhra Pradesh), Saroj Pandey (Chhattisgarh), Bhupendra Yadav (Rajasthan), Prof Ram Shanakar Katheriya (Uttar Pradesh) and Ram Lal (organisation-Delhi).
The spokespersons of the party will be Shahnawaz Hussain, Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi, Meenakshi Lekhi, Dr Sambit Patra, MJ Akbar, Nalin Kohli, BS Shastri, GVL Narsimha Rao, Anil Baluni and Lalita Kumarmangalam.
It was learnt that Shah held many consultations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the RSS, which is the BJP’s ideological mentor, to structure his team.
