Sexual assault gets JNU boy expelled for 10 years

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has expelled a research scholar for 10 years as he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl student inside his hostel room. The matter was reported to the the Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) by the victim, who has not been identified.
The accused scholar identified as E Jayaprakash will also be deprived of character certificate from the university. According to the order issued by university Proctor, ‘The GSCASH has found E Jayparkash, a research scholar in Centre of Indian Language, School of language, Literature and Culture Studies and ex-resident of 332E, Brahamputra Hostel, JNU, guilty of sexually assaulting a girl student in his hostel room on 4 October 2012.’
‘His name shall be removed from the rolls of the university forthwith’ said the Proctors’ order. Sources said, ‘Having accepted the report of the GSCASH and after satisfying himself, JNU vice-chancellor SK Sopory, in exercise of the powers vested in him under statue 32(5) of the university, decided to expel the accused student.’ When contacted, vice-chancellor SK Sopory said, ‘It was gross misconduct on the part of the research scholar and appropriate action has been taken against him.’
