Sex racket busted in Ghaziabad hotel

The Ghaziabad police on Saturday busted a sex racket in the city with the arrest of 56 couples from a hotel in the area.

The raid was carried out after a tip-off received from the locals. Head of the local police was suspended following the incident for ‘conniving in the crime’.

‘These boys and girls, mostly in their early and mid-twenties. Majority of the girls and boys are students at institutes of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. But some locals too have been arrested,’ said superintendent of police SS Yadav.

‘We are probing the matter, the innocents would be released and rest would be sent to jail on Monday,’ Yadav added admitting that some of those arrested might not be involved in the sex racket and might have been staying at the hotel with their boyfriends. ‘Some might be married couples. We are verifying their credentials’ he added.

According to the police, they had prior information of a sex racket being run in some hotels of the Bajaria area on Railway Station Road. ‘On complaints from some locals, we had conducted raids earlier but the information was leaked by some mole in the police department and we returned empty handed,’ a senior police officer stationed at Kotwali police station said.

On Saturday, a special team of senior officers raided hotel Gopal Plaza after receiving a tip-off without informing the local police station. The police found 56 girls and 56 boys in ‘compromising positions’ in 56 separate rooms of the hotel.

The suspended officer has been identified as sub-inspector Devendra Singh. A police constable too has been suspended.
