Delhi is definitely going to come to a halt on Friday due to multiple mega-events happening in the city. Even the Delhi Traffic Police has started sweating prior to the grand events and the consequences that the commuters will have to face will be truly traumatic. To deal with the situation, Delhi traffic cops have mobilised district police to manage the expected heaviest traffic movement from Friday morning itself.
Friday morning is going to start off with major traffic jams in South Delhi as Radha Soami Satsang Beas is holding a satsang programme in Bhati Complex on Bhati Mines in Fatehpur Beri from Friday to Sunday from 6 am to 3 pm. A huge public gathering of around 4 lakh people from all over Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states is expected.
“Due to the grand satsang, traffic is going to be affected in the Southern range. These areas include Bhati Mines, 100 Foota Road, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road (specifically near CDR Chowk and Andheria More), Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road, Anuvrat Marg, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road (Lado Sarai to Khanpur), Aurbindo Marg to IIT flyover to Lado Sarai,” said Muktesh Chander, Special CP (Traffic).
The traffic will start from early morning on Friday and will be almost the same till 5 pm as around 4 lakh people will attend the satsang due to which vehicular movement is expected to be heavy.
Apart from the satsang, its going to be the first day of the World Culture Festival in the Yamuna Bank area and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the event in the evening.
“Around 35 lakh people are expected to attend the mega event to be held from Friday to Sunday. The impact of such a huge gathering is going to be on arterial roads such as ITO Bridge, Vikas Marg, Ghazipur border, DND flyover, Mathura Road, Chirag Delhi, NH-24, Sarai Kale Khan, Noida Link Road, Ring Road, Chilla border,” said Chander.
Along with massive traffic congestion, there will be a PM route due to which roads in New Delhi district, South-East district and East District will be blocked for a couple of hours.
“Managing traffic on Friday will be a very big task for the department. It is for sure that commuters will have to suffer. Around 2,000 traffic cops will be managing the traffic and as this number is not sufficient, we have asked the district police to assist us. Around 500 policemen from districts have been mobilised for it,” he added.
“Not only this. On Friday, maximum number of marriages are going to take place as a result of which the roads will remain jam-packed in the evening as well, be it East Delhi, South, North or West,” another official added.
