Families of those who went missing from D-5 flat of Sector 31, also known as ‘house of horror’, on Sunday lit candles in front of the flat remembering their loved ones on the seventh anniversary of Nithari serial killings. Some people and members of NGO NIRMAN gathered outside the D-5 flat to remember the deceased children today.
Resident of Nithari near the house said fear was gone and children and residents have moved ahead with their life and do not want to recall the horror.
In the previous years, families of the victims performed ‘havan’ ceremony for the peace of their lost ones at the back of D-5 house, from where skulls and bones of several missing children were recovered in 2006, exposing the serial killings.
On 29 December, 2006, after recovery of skulls from the dry drain behind the house, Noida police had arrested house owner businessman MS Pandher and his servant Surinder Koli.
A total of 19 cases were filed in connection with the rape and murder of children and a young woman whose skeletal remains, clothes and footwear were found in the drain. The CBI had filed charge sheets in 16 cases and three cases were closed due to lack of evidence. The rapes and murders in Nithari had sent shock waves across the nation.
