Seven arrested for robbing courier boys carrying jewellery

With the arrest of seven men, the Delhi Police claimed to have busted a gang that allegedly robbed courier boys carrying jewellery from Gujarat to the national Capital. 

The police have also recovered two pistols, seven live cartridges, a knife, some jewellery and Rs 12.5 lakh from their possession. The arrested have been identified as Mahender, Manish Sharma, Arun Sagar, Roshan Gupta, Jahpal, Mohd Arif Khan and Sarju, police said. 

According to the police, on January 2, two employees of a courier company were carrying a jewellery parcel from Ahmedabad to Delhi when they were robbed at gunpoint in the Sadar Bazar area. A case was registered under the Arms Act and the IPC at the Sadar Bazar police station. 

Based on a tip-off, the police arrested  Mahender from Meet Nagar in Jyoti Nagar area. He revealed the names of his other accomplices, who were part of the robbery. Police said the culprits had detailed knowledge about the company delivering jewellery and they had conducted a recce of the area a few months before committing the crime. They also befriended Sarju Pandit, who sold tea to the company’s employees. Police said Sarju tipped off the accused about the movement of the employees of the courier company.

With the arrest of the gang members, the police claimed to have also solved two other cases. In the first incident, the gang had robbed a bag containing Rs 32 lakh in Kamla Market in September 2015, while in the second incident, they had robbed gold jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh in Karol Bagh last July.
