Sena red flags Fadnavis’ separate Vidarbha plan

‘It is unfortunate that the chief minister of Maharashtra has stressed for a separate Vidarbha at appropriate time. He could have easily avoided the issue and should give emphasis on Vidarbha’s development or on Naxalites rather that speaking in favour of dividing the state,’ an editorial in Saamna reads.

It further questioned, ‘What did he gain by ruining the dream of united Maharashtra?’ ‘He beat his chest and said that at an appropriate time, statehood would be given to Vidarbha. As chief minister, he should ensure the state remains united,’ it says.

Earlier, on 7 October, fearing a complete rout in the Maharashtra assembly poll over BJP’s ‘hidden agenda’ of a separate state of Vidarbha amid a four corner fight, which happened on 15 Oct, PM Narendra Modi pitched-in to save party from faltering and announced that he would not allow the state to be divided. But contradicting PM’s promise, remark made by the newly appointed chief minister of the state has invited a large scale ire from all political parties in the state. On Tuesday, senior Cong leader Narayan Rane called upon Fadnavis and asked him to refrain from making such statement over separating Vidarbha from Maharashtra. ‘If he can’t stop himself from making such statement than he can quit,’ Rane said.
