Heroics of a security officer working with a private college in Greater Noida foiled a broad day loot attempt on Monday afternoon as he forced the bike-borne assailants to flee even after facing bullet injuries. Police said that the unidentified criminals attacked a van midway, carrying cash belonging to a private college worth Rs 17 lakh.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 4 pm near Alpha Sector when college staff along with the security officer, Satpal Singh, were going back after withdrawing cash from a nearby Syndicate Bank. When the van reached the Alpha round-about, two criminals attacked the van trying to hold the staff at gunpoint before looting. But the staff displayed exemplary courage and foiled the robbery bid. They also took out weapons and opened fire on the staff.
During the exchange of fire, Satpal sustained bullet injury on his leg. One of the assailants reportedly also sustained bullet injury but before they could be nabbed, they managed to flee the spot.
