Security beefed up across city after hostage crisis in Sydney

The intelligence believe that foreigners in Delhi may be targeted by the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) sympathisers at vulnerable areas. After the fresh alert by the Intelligence Bureau, the Delhi police are keeping a tight vigil at the sensitives areas in the city. “There could be another 26/11 or a strike similar to parliament attack in the national Capital before Republic Day,” an Intelligence Bureau source said. Police said similar incident of hostage crisis at key locations may also occur in the city. “To avert the possible strike, we have increased the deployment of police force at five star hotels, embassies, monuments and market areas,” SN Shrivastava, special commissioner of police (Special Cell) said.

The inputs from IB hint  towards an attack by ISIS between January 23, 2015 and January 28, 2015 as US President Barrack Obama is scheduled to visit India on Republic Day. According to another senior police official, special security arrangements have been put in place in the areas with high foreigners population.  “Areas like Pahargunj, Lajpat Nagar, Chanakyapuri, Mayur Vihar and Old Delhi are considered to be sensitive places with large number of foreigners. Special police force have been deployed in such areas”, the officer informed.

The Centre has also asked the state governments to keep a close vigil as recent reports have shown that various Indian youths have joined ISIS in Mumbai, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir as well.

The latest advisory was issued by Centre a week ago to all the state governments, warning them about the possible suicide attacks by ISIS-inspired youths.

It is important to mention that a Banglore-based techie Mehdi Masroor Biswas was recently arrested by police for allegedly operating pro-ISIS Twitter handle.
