'Secular PM is a wonderful thing'

After announcing its presidential nominee, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the United Progressive Alliance has taken a back seat and is enjoying the war between the National Democratic Alliance and Janata Dal [United].

In fact, the NDA seems to be all shaken up after the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh [RSS] decided to back Mukherjee and now even JD[U] chief Nitish Kumar reportedly took a direct hit at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the NDA should announce a secular prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The prime ministerial candidate within the NDA has always been a contentious issue and now with Kumar clearly stating his stand, the rift between Modi and Kumar is visible.

Agreeing with Kumar's stand, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid reacted by saying that India being a secular country, needed a secular PM too. 'If there was any doubt about this in any political organisation, their own leaders now coming out and saying this clearly, is a welcome thing.'
