Defending the controversial remarks made by it top leader Arvind Kejriwal against media on Thursday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday justified the comments claiming ‘he was referring to a section of media which was running agenda of BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.’ The party further said that it would file a complaint against three news channels for bias towards the BJP. Arvind Kejriwal instigated a fresh controversy after a video in which he allegedly saying that media outlets were accepting money for favourable coverage of the BJP.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that a section of media was implementing the agenda of Modi and BJP. ‘Kejriwal’s comments were against those who distort news and resort to paid news,’ Singh said. AAP spokesperson and former journalist Ashutosh said that a recent sting operation had shown that some of the agencies which conduct opinion polls before elections are willing to tweak their findings for money. ‘No action has been taken against television channels and the opinion poll agencies yet,’ said Ashutosh.
The press conference resulted in AAP leaders and reporters getting involved in an heated argument. Former journalist Ashish Khetan, who is AAP’s candidate from New Delhi, also attacked the media saying one section of it was only promoting Modi and did not write critical stories against Gujarat government and its chief minister. AAP leaders also named four channels, which were ‘targeting’ the party and said that it will approach the Election Commission over the issue.
‘Some channels have been running a campaign against us. We will take up the issue with the Election Commission and give them relevant proofs,’ said Singh.
