In a first, the South Municipal Corporation Department has sanctioned building plans in 46 refugee colonies, which paves the way for vertical growth in these areas. The owners of such plots in these refugee colonies can now raise their structures to five storey, including parking, which was so far limited to two floors.
Leader of House in South MCD, Subhash Arya said the decision would benefit over one lakh people living in over 15,000 flats. ‘The occupants can now get the building plans sanctioned in accordance with the building by-laws’, said Arya.
According to the new policy, if the owners of first and second floor are different, they can carry out the construction by mutual understanding. ‘They will just have to get the building plan sanctioned and deposit the required fee’, Arya added. The civic body has already sanctioned the building plan of a property in Vikram Vihar, a refugee colony. He also added that there were regular demands from citizens of these colonies to sanction building plans and hence the three MCDs took up the matter with central government.
