SDMC chairman seeks quick replies to councillors’ letters

The standing committee chairman of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), Satish Upadhyay, on Wednesday directed all officials to reply to letters written by councillors within 15 days of receiving them.

The issue was raised by Khanpur councillor Satender Chaudhary, who said he had written 10 letters to the various departments of SDMC over the past few months but had received replies for only two of them.

Giving the officers a stern warning, he asked the commissioner to respond to the councillors’ queries within 15 days at the maximum. ‘How can we provide time-bound services to the general public when the councillor who is a part of the corporation has to wait for months for a response from the officers,’ said Upadhyay.

Meanwhile, Farhad Suri, leader of Opposition in SDMC, attacked the BJP for not cancelling the contract of Iskcon Trust, which provides mid-day meal to thousands of school students in Delhi. Suri contended that despite complaints of carelessness on the part of the concerned NGO in serving quality food to children, no punitive action has been taken so far.

Without naming anyone in particular, Suri blamed ‘some national leaders’ of the party for ‘interfering’ with the process of initiating action against Iskcon Trust. ‘The top brass of BJP has vested interest in the trust that is why its license has not been cancelled even after commissioner’s orders,’ he added. Later in the meeting, it was decided that procedure for registration and issuance of license to traders will be simplified to enable more shopkeepers to register their businesses.
