SDM shoots letter to Vijender Gupta, asks to pack up protest tent

The Civil Lines SDM on Thursday sent a letter to BJP MLA Vijender Gupta to stop riots and protests outside the CM’s house. The letter was issued after Gupta protested outside Arvind Kejriwal’s house on Thursday morning in relation to suicide of a woman AAP activist.

Soni (28), a woman activist of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, who had accused her party colleague identified as Ramesh Bhardwaj of sexually harassing her, committed suicide on Tuesday in Narela area of Outer Delhi.

Soni allegedly consumed some poisonous substances in her home and her parents claimed she was suffering from depression after her alleged molester was released on bail on Tuesday.

Reacting to this, AAP Delhi Unit Convenor Dilip Pandey on Thursday told Millennium Post: “This is very sad and BJP must not play dirty politics over it. The BJP is trying to spread canards and is engaging in ‘rumour mongering’. Secondly, the person Ramesh Bhardwaj has nothing to do with the Aam Admi Party, so it is wrong to say that he belongs to AAP but the lady belongs to AAP.” Pandey reiterated that at every step the party has helped to provide justice to the woman. She had filed a complaint against Bhardwaj for touching her inappropriately. In the complaint she even approached MLA Sharad Yadav but even he offered to introduce her to senior party leaders only if she comprises.

“It was the AAP that made the complaint when she approached us, there is no question of comprise in this. In fact, a Chief Minister’s official had called the DCP office in this regard but the police chose not to act on this and secured bail to the accused,” said Pandey.

Meanwhile, family members of Soni met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday. The Chief Minister during the meet assured the family that justice will be done with the deceased. Kejriwal also offered them all necessary help on behalf of his government. Expressing grief over the incident, Kejriwal emphasised on the deceased’s children’s care. Family members who met Kejriwal included the deceased’s father, her father-in-law, her brother and children.
