Scriptwriter held for wannabe actor’s murder

An abduction for ransom-cum-murder case has been solved by the Delhi Police with the arrest of the accused, who has been identified as Shanti Deep Verma, a 31-year-old scriptwriter, from Bharaich, U.P. The victim, 17 year old Sumit Tiwari, was found dead in a suit case in Verma’s flat. ‘Sumit had done a three month course on Modelling and Acting from an institute in Noida and was offered a job after a telephonic interview on 18 February' said Dheeraj Kumar, Additional deputy Commissioner of Police.

Sumit had informed his father that he would visit a place in Mandawali for rehearsals as he had been given a chance to act in films. Sumit failed to return from the third such visit and his mobile phone was found switched off.

The victim’s father received a ransom call from his son's mobile on 21 February, demanding Rs 2 lakhs, following  which he registered a complaint at Karawal Nagar police station. A search for the victim was made in the Mandawali area, but the flat was found locked. 'The raid team broke the lock and found the dead body in the suit case on 23 February' Kumar said.' The body was then moved to GTB hospital for Post mortem'.

Verma fled the city, but was finally arrested on 2 March.
